The Kit
The AMX Astonish is an award winning re-body kit which totally transforms the Mark 1 Mazda MX5 creating a more modern look. Designed in Australia by Misha Lebedev, the car has taken many of its design cues from the beautiful Aston Martin Vanquish.
The AMX Astonish kit can be fitted by a competent builder in just one or two weekends. This fits neatly into an industry that measures most build projects in months. The kit is now hand made in the UK using local companies to promote local growth. The kit comes complete with instruction manual, all fixings, grilles, and panels; in fact everything is included even headlights and brake lights. It is aimed at those individuals who want something different and who will not settle for just another aero package, spoilers, bumpers or a new paint job.
The AMX Astonish kit is available as a DIY kit delivered to your door. Kits can be delivered to anywhere in the mainland UK for a cost of £0.90p/mile (one way with a minimum of £50). Please contact us for delivery elsewhere. A full build service is available for those who do not have the time or inclination to build their own car. The transformation focuses on replacing the front and rear bumpers, the front wings, along with the bonnet and boot. All lights are removed and the only panels remaining from the original car are the rear wings which are recovered and the doors. All the original items are bolted to the chassis and can be removed in as little as day. MX5 parts are much sought after which means that the resale of such items as the bumpers and wings will inevitably reduce the cost of your build.
The kit is made from quality hand laid GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) and has been designed to utilise the original manufacturer’s fixing points. This maintains a simple construction process for the builder and saves time. Unlike other kits, the AMX Astonish kit does not require any major modification, cutting or welding and is bonded or bolted into place.
When all of the panels have been assembled with a loose fit, the builder can adjust the panels to ensure correct panel alignment and gap fit before temporarily securing it to the chassis. Once this has been done then all of the panels are then removed for repainting and refitting back into the correct position. The doors will need to be repainted as will the surround on the front windscreen. The interior of the car can be re-trimmed to suit individual tastes or left as standard.
The MX5 hard top or soft top can still be used as the original fixings for this remain unchanged. This will allow the AMX Astonish to be used in all weathers particularly with our unpredictable British weather!
